The first HTC One was a great smartphone, probably better then the Samsung Galaxy S4, but people went all the way with the Korean device. In 2014 the situation was the same: the new M8 is essentially a M7 but improved in every aspect, especially in the design, but again the Samsung Galaxy S5 won the battle. Will 2015 be the year of the surpass for the Taiwanese company?

From what has emerged until now, maybe. A strong point in favor of HTC’s smartphones is always the design and some leaks (provided by the best source possibile about leaks: @evleaks) show that the new M9 will look very premium. The performance of the current top of the range smartphones are by now very good and in 2015 with quad-core and eight-core CPU these will be even better, thanks also to the new 64bit architectures, so the fields in which smartphones have to fight are the camera, functionalities and optimization.
Always referring on the rumors, HTC will abandon the ultrapixel technology for the rear camera in favor of a sensor with more megapixel, probably 20.7 mpx. The front facing camera instead will gain the ultrapixel endorsement, with probably the aim to obtain more natural and realistic selfie in every condition of light.
Samsung is often criticized when speaking of the operating system: too many unremovable application and a TouchWiz not very optimized that sometimes generates lag. In contrast, HTC has always done well when speaking of the optimization of the operation system, and this year everybody hope for Sense with more pure Lollipop experience.
The biggest news is that this year we could see two different versions of the M9: one with a standard 5″ Full HD display and a big brother version with a 5.5″ QHD display. The internal specification (Snapdragon 810, 3GB of RAM, 3000 mAh battery, 32GB of expandable memory) would be the same, but the bigger versione could have a fingerprint sensor like the iPhone 6.
The HTC One M9 will be presented on March 1, so few days before the Mobile World Congress 2015.
